---Presently, China's hydropower and
wind power installed capacities have respectively hit
230,000 MW and 47,000 MW, both ranked first in the world,
the deputy director of the National Energy Bureau Liu
Qi said on April 13.
Liu, at "the National Hydro and
Wind Energy Research Center and the National Energy and
Hydropower Engineering Technology R&D Center Awarding
Ceremony", said that in recent years, China's hydropower
and wind power have met unprecedented opportunities and
achieved significant accomplishments, which play an important
role in increasing energy supply, ensuring energy security,
promoting energy-saving and emission-reduction as well
as coping with climate change.
He also pointed out that, with the rapid
development of hydropower, wind power and the change of
economic social development environment, hydropower and
wind power development face increasingly striking problems:
immigration and environmental protection, engineering
technology of high dam under the complex seismic and geologic
conditions, technology standards and policies of wind
power, etc., which have become the restricting factors
that hamper the healthy development of hydropower and
wind power.
Liu added that, according to the new
situation and requirement, it's necessary and urgent to
strengthen the hydropower and wind power industry technical
support, management system construction, policy research
and technical R&D. For this reason, the National Energy
Bureau, relying on HYDROCHINA CORPORATION, set up the
National Hydro and Wind Energy Research Center and the
National Energy and Hydropower Engineering Technology
R&D Center so as to offer the national policy and
technical support services for hydropower and wind energy.
It's understood that the main task of
National Hydro and Wind Energy Research Center is to undertake
the development strategy and policy research, technical
R&D, personnel training, international exchange, etc.
in the field of hydropower and wind energy, and to provide
policy and technical support services of hydropower and
wind energy management as well. For National Energy and
Hydropower Engineering Technology R&D Center, it carries
out significant engineering research in hydropower area
and promotes the union of "production, study, research"
as well as the progress of engineering technology. Establishment
of the two centers is not only an important measure taken
by the National Energy Bureau to strengthen hydropower
and wind power industry management, but also a major component
of innovation system construction in national energy industry.
As an essential technical service unit
of China's new and renewable energy industry, HYDROCHINA
