(ADB), Mr. Lin Ning, the Assistant to Director General
of HRC, participated in the Energy Sector Coordination
Committee (ESCC) meeting under the Central Asia Regional
Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program, held in Philippines
during May 21st-22nd, 2012.
The CAREC Secretariat is located in
ADB headquarters. There are four priority developing sectors
including the energy sector under the cooperation framework.
Each sector has a coordination committee, and each coordination
committee holds 1-2 meetings yearly. This is the first
meeting held by Energy Sector Coordination Committee (ESCC)
in 2012.
Organized by the CAREC Secretariat,
the meeting attracts an attendance of over 40 representatives
from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan,
Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan as well
as the officials of ADB, World Bank and United States
Agency for International Development (USAID). Representatives
comment on the implementation of Energy Action Plan (EAP)
and Energy Work Plan (EWP) 2013-2015 of CAREC, especially
the delegates from Central Asia Countries fully discussed
the project of Central Asia-South Asia Corridor which
involves power transfer, trade and energy facilities building
etc. and put forward much constructive suggestion

on renewable energy, especially small hydropower, project
rehabilitation, privatization and public-private-partnership
