---HRC's delegation visited City of
Cape Town on the afternoon of April 12 at its invitation.
The delegation was warmly greeted by Deputy Director of
Water and Sanitation Department Mr. Colline Mubadiro who
gathered scientific research and technical staff in the
department for exchanging with HRC on SHP and water resources
development and management.
Division Chief of HRC Mr. Pan Daqing
and Department official in City of Cape Town Mr. Farouk
Robertson introduced HRC's development and Cape Town's
hydropower development and water resource utilization
respectively. Ms. Cheng gave a speech on Small Hydropower
and Rural Electrification in China. As an HRC's participant
in 2002 training workshop and Chief Engineer in the department,
Mr. Mlamli Mabulu introduced the hydropower development
and utilization in Cape Town. The City owns several water
treatment plants with independently developed technology
and cross-region water transfer projects. At present,
the area is suffering from a shortage of water, therefore
local government plans to develop hydropower with the
current water treatment plants so as to make full use
of existing water resources and facilities. Ms. Cheng
offered to provide technical support for this project
and several consensuses were reached after a thorough
discussion on future cooperation.
Facilitated by the City, HRC's delegation
paid a field trip to two CoCT-owned water treatment plants
--Steenbras and Faurea and two affiliated SHP stations
on April 13, as well as Palmiet Pumped Storage Station
developed by South Africa's power company ESKOM.(2013-05-13)
