---On April 15, Mr. Paschal Kibassa,
the Principal Engineer of TANESCO and a participant of
Rural Electrification Seminar held by HRC in 2010, accompanied
the HRC delegation on a visit to the Permanent Secretary
of Tanzanian Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MEM) Mr.
Eliakim Maswi. Mr. Maswi expressed his gratitude to HRC
for having trained almost 20 hydropower technicians and
officers for MEM and also gave some instructions on future
communications and exchanges between HRC and Rural Energy
Agency (REA) of Ministry of Energy and Minerals.
REA, established in 2005, is mainly
engaged in new energy development in rural areas of Tanzania
and provides some financial support for the development
of rural energy projects. With the arrangement of Mr.
Maswi, HRC Director Ms. Cheng Xialei and her delegation
visited the Director General of REA Dr. Lutengano Mwakahesya.
The two parties conducted in-depth exchanges and communication
on the development of and cooperation on small hydropower
and rural energy and expressed their keen interests to
cooperate in the future.
In the next afternoon after the visit,
the two parties signed a memorandum of understanding on
