---Mr. XU Jincai, Deputy Director of
HRC, paid a visit to Ethiopia together with Division Chief
Mr. DONG Dafu and MENG Ke for cooperation on renewable
energy development during March 11th-17th. Accompanied
by Prof. John J. Qu and Dr. Balechager Ayalew from George
Mason University, the delegation visited H.E. Mr. Debretsion
G/Michael, Vice Prime Ministerial Coordinator and Minister
of Communication and Information Technology, H.E. Mr.
Alemayehu Tegenu, Minister of Water, Irrigation and Energy,
H.E. Ms. Demitu Hamibisa Bonsa, Minister of Science and
Technology and Ms. Azeb Asnake, Chief Executive Officer
of Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation. All the parties
exchanged views extensively on renewable energy planning,
technical transfer and talent training, and a Memorandum
of Understanding (MOU) was signed between HRC and the
Sector Support and Capacity Building Directorate of Ministry
of Water, Irrigation and Energy for the comprehensive
utilization of water resources and the regional power
grid planning of a rive basin in Ethiopia. A meeting was
also organized with Mr. Atef Marzouk, Senior Policy Officer
of the Department of Infrastructure & Energy of African
Union for establishing African Training Center for Renewable
Energy (ATCRE).
Mr. XU met with Mr. QIAN Zhaogang, Counsellor
of the Economic & Commercial Counsellor's office of
The Embassy of P.R.China in Ethiopia, exchanged information
about the implementation of Ethiopian renewable energy
projects funded by Chinese side, and discussed new modes
for foreign-aid training and technical cooperation in
Ethiopia and the rest African countries. (2014-04-21)
